Noida police launch 'Operation FAST' to clear traffic for ambulances on critical runs

Gautam Buddh Nagar police set up a 24-hour cell and helpline to clear junctions for ambulances; a trial covered about 12 km in roughly 10 minutes.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) Police Commissionerate has launched Operation FAST, short for FAST Ambulance Seamless Transition, to help ambulances carrying critical patients and road accident victims avoid traffic jams, ETV Bharat reported on 30 October 2026.

According to the report, the plan was prepared by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Shaivya Goyal after research, and Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh announced it. A 24-hour Ambulance Traffic Facilitation Cell has been set up in the Traffic Police control room, with the helpline number 9218981716 shared with hospitals and ambulance operators.

How it works

  • Ambulance dispatchers, hospital control rooms or ambulance staff tell the control room the patient's condition, destination and proposed route.
  • The control room coordinates with traffic police along the route, so major intersections are cleared in advance.
  • If needed, signals are temporarily adjusted, opposite-direction traffic is regulated and alternative routes are arranged.

In a trial, an empty ambulance covered about 12 km from the Chilla border to a private hospital in roughly 10 minutes during heavy traffic, without disrupting general traffic, the report said. The commissioner also asked citizens to give way to ambulances and avoid blocking intersections.

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

  • Operators in Gautam Buddh Nagar can share the route and patient details with the control cell through the helpline.
  • Hospitals and ambulance service providers have been linked to the system, according to the report.
