Karnal: ambulance stuck behind paddy trolleys as mother carries sick child

In Karnal's Gharaunda, an ambulance taking a 3.5-year-old girl to the district hospital was stuck in a paddy-trolley jam, so her mother carried her on foot.

An ambulance carrying a sick toddler from Gharaunda in Haryana's Karnal district got stuck in a traffic jam on Friday, and the child's mother carried her on foot to get past it, Amar Ujala reported.

According to the report, the 3.5-year-old girl from Sanjay Nagar village had a fever for two to three days. Her condition worsened around 3 pm and she was taken to the Gharaunda health centre, where doctors referred her to the Karnal district hospital.

The ambulance was held up on the service lane towards Karnal near the grain market by a queue of trolleys loaded with paddy. The child's father said the jam stretched about 1 km. As the wait lengthened, her mother carried her on foot while a family member held up the IV drip. After getting past the jam, the mother took a lift on a motorcycle and reached the health centre in about 30 minutes.

Doctors there treated the girl and arranged a second ambulance. Because the jam continued, it took an alternate route and reached the Karnal district hospital at around 4:30 pm. The family said her condition was stable.

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

The incident shows how harvest-season crowding of trolleys near grain markets can block ambulances on service lanes, a problem crews may face on similar routes during the procurement season.
