Andhra Pradesh links 108 ambulances to hospitals with pre-hospital alerts and trauma registry
Andhra Pradesh's medical education directorate has begun pre-hospital notification by 108 ambulance staff and a State Trauma Registry for accident victims.
The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) in Andhra Pradesh has announced two initiatives to get accident victims treated within the golden hour, according to Deccan Chronicle. They are Pre-hospital Notification and a State Trauma Registry.
Pre-hospital notification
Under the first initiative, a 108 ambulance staff member will alert the receiving hospital while the accident victim is being transported. The aim is that by the time the patient arrives, the medical emergency team, blood, X-ray, scanning and surgery sections are ready.
State Trauma Registry
As per Supreme Court directions and central government guidelines, details of every accident victim brought to government hospitals are to be registered digitally. The registry is expected to help identify places on highways where accidents occur frequently so that measures can be taken.
The statement was issued by DME additional director Dr Satyanarayana Murthy and state Trauma and Burns nodal officer Dr Sunitha Sankar. The DME office is training health staff to implement both initiatives. Health authorities also advised people to call 108 immediately after an accident and stay with the victim until the ambulance and health personnel arrive.
Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers
The 108 crew now has a role in alerting hospitals en route, so accurate information from the scene and the ambulance matters.
