Kerala to flag off 335 new 108 ambulances including ALS and neonatal units

Health Minister K Muraleedharan will flag off 335 new 108 ambulances in Thiruvananthapuram, replacing the 316 older basic life support vehicles.

Kerala Health Minister K Muraleedharan will flag off 335 new 108 ambulances at a function at Central Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, at 4 pm on Friday, The Times of India reported. Transport Minister C P John will hand over the keys.

The new fleet, deployed by Hyderabad-based EMRI Green Health Services under the supervision of Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd (KMSCL), consists of:

  • 315 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances
  • 14 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances equipped with ventilators
  • 6 neonatal ambulances designed to carry newborn babies

According to the release cited in the report, this is the first time neonatal and ALS ambulances are being deployed as part of the state's 108 emergency ambulance service. With the new vehicles, all 316 older BLS ambulances currently in service will be withdrawn from operation.

The expansion is expected to strengthen the state's emergency ambulance network, particularly for advanced medical support and specialised transport for newborns.

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

The introduction of ALS and neonatal units shows the 108 fleet moving beyond basic life support vehicles, which may raise equipment and training expectations for crews.
