Ghaziabad issues notices to about 800 ambulances running without fitness checks
About 800 of over 2,000 ambulances registered in Ghaziabad lack fitness certificates; owners have one month before seizure and registration action.
Around 800 ambulances registered with the Ghaziabad RTO office have not undergone a fitness check for a long time, according to an Amar Ujala report. The district has more than 2,000 registered ambulances, and transport department figures cited in the report put about 40 percent of them without a fitness certificate. Many belong to private hospitals, trusts and private operators.
The department has issued notices to the owners and given them one month. If fitness is still not obtained, officials are preparing to recommend seizure of the vehicles and cancellation of their registration.
RTO Enforcement officer Dr Siyaram Verma said enforcement teams will soon be deployed outside major government and private hospitals and on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, GT Road and Link Road. Besides documents, the teams will check the life-saving equipment inside ambulances.
As per the rules mentioned in the report, an ambulance must have emergency life-saving equipment, working oxygen cylinders and sound technical condition.
Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers
- Owners with lapsed fitness certificates have a one-month window to comply.
- Roadside and hospital-gate checks will cover both papers and onboard equipment.
