Free Pink Ambulance service for pregnant women starts in Anjbhoj, Sirmaur

Two free Pink Ambulances were flagged off in Himachal's Sirmaur to take pregnant women to hospital and bring mothers and newborns home after delivery.

Pregnant women and newborns in the Anjbhoj area of Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh, can now use a free Pink Ambulance service, Amar Ujala reported. The service was started on Tuesday at Rajpur, on the occasion of Navratri, when Shri Shri Shyamanand Maharaj flagged it off.

The initiative was taken by Gurdeep Singh Gairy, president of the Shri Paonta Sahib Welfare Society. He said two ambulances will be available: one serving about five to seven panchayats of Anjbhoj and the other serving Bhagani and nearby panchayats.

The ambulances will carry pregnant women to hospital and drop the mother and baby safely home after delivery. When needed, efforts will also be made to help patients get treatment at larger hospitals such as PGI Chandigarh. Contact numbers 01704-222666 and 6230440666 have been issued for the service.

At the event, Gairy also raised concern about poor roads in Anjbhoj and spoke about promoting agriculture and tourism for local employment.
