Chitrakoot: 102 ambulance EMT gives oxygen to breathless newborn on way to hospital

An EMT of a 102 ambulance in Chitrakoot, UP, gave oxygen support to a seven-day-old baby with breathing trouble before admission to the district hospital.

A seven-day-old baby in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district was stabilised by a 102 ambulance crew after developing severe breathing difficulty, according to a report by Amar Ujala.

The infant began struggling to breathe at the Ghurenatpur Primary Health Centre in the Bharatkoop police station area. The doctor there alerted the 108/102 programme manager, Somendra Shukla, and an ambulance team reached the centre. The baby was referred to the district hospital.

The emergency medical technician (EMT) found that the newborn was suffering from a lack of oxygen. On the advice of Dr. Mohammad, the EMT started oxygen support through a nasal cannula inside the ambulance and gave first aid to help keep the baby's body temperature regulated, the report said.

With this timely care the baby's condition stabilised. The newborn was then admitted to the district hospital, where treatment is continuing, according to the report.
