Two new BLS ambulances flagged off in Khagaria, district fleet rises to 30

Khagaria in Bihar added two new BLS ambulances for Sadar Hospital and PHC Beldaur, taking the district's ambulance count from 28 to 30, Prabhat Khabar reports.

Two new Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances were flagged off in Khagaria district, Bihar, on Sunday, according to a Prabhat Khabar report. The Deputy Development Commissioner and the Civil Surgeon jointly flagged off the vehicles at a simple ceremony held at the Collectorate and health department premises.

One ambulance has been given to Khagaria Sadar Hospital and the other to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Beldaur. With the addition, the number of ambulances running in the district has gone from 28 to 30, the report said.

Fleet at the two facilities

  • Sadar Hospital already had two ALS ambulances, five BLS ambulances and one hearse. With the new vehicle it now has six BLS ambulances and nine vehicles in total.
  • PHC Beldaur earlier had two BLS and one ALS ambulance. It now has four.

Officials said the aim is to speed up response to emergency calls, especially from the diara (riverine) and rural areas where pregnant women, newborns and accident victims often find it hard to reach hospital on time. Sadar Hospital receives serious patients from across the district and refers them to higher centres when needed.

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

Districts continue to add government-run ambulances to their fleets, and the report says the vehicles are run through an ambulance operating agency.
