Punjab rights panel member seeks reply from Ferozepur hospital on 108 ambulance records

A Punjab human rights panel member found Ferozepur civil hospital's 108 ambulance records lacked relatives' phone numbers and gave staff 10 days to reply.

Padma Shri Jatinder Singh Shanty, a member of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, inspected the civil hospital and City police station in Ferozepur on Sunday, according to Dainik Bhaskar.

At the hospital, he found that the records of the 108 ambulance service did not carry patients' relatives' phone numbers and other required details. He asked the staff concerned to reply within 10 days.

Shanty said the government has provided machinery and facilities worth lakhs of rupees, so the records of services should be complete. He also stressed that signatures and identity details of relatives should be recorded when bodies are moved from one place to another, and cited an instance of bodies being swapped in Ludhiana as a reason for caution.

Other points from the visit

  • He checked mortuary machines and cleanliness and asked the senior medical officer to send the demand for required machines in writing.
  • He noted that cleanliness was better than on his previous visit and praised the work of SMO Dr Nikhil Gupta.

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

The inspection shows that patient and relative details, and signatures when transporting bodies, are being checked in ambulance record-keeping.
