Jharkhand 108 ambulance staff postpone indefinite strike to 26 October

Jharkhand's 108 ambulance employees' union put off its 21 October indefinite strike to 26 October after talks with the Additional Chief Secretary, Health.

The Jharkhand Pradesh Ambulance Employees Association has postponed the statewide indefinite strike of 108 ambulance workers that was due to begin on 21 October 2026. The agitation will now start on 26 October, according to ETV Bharat.

The union's state president, Neeraj Tiwari, announced the change in a letter dated 20 October. The decision followed a phone conversation with Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajay Kumar Singh, who asked for the delay. The union cited Durga Puja and Vijayadashami, and said the government had promised to look at the pending demands. Emergency 108 services are to run normally until 11:59 pm on 25 October.

A meeting on 16 October at the National Health Mission office in Namkum, chaired by Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari, did not resolve all issues, the report said.

Main demands

  • Running 108 ambulance services at district level through Civil Surgeons
  • Payment of pending salaries
  • Reinstatement of employees removed from service
  • Statutory benefits including EPF, ESI, overtime and gratuity
  • Action on alleged salary cuts and delayed payments

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

The service stays normal for now, but the strike threat remains until the pending wage and benefit demands are settled.
