Ghazipur transport team inspects ambulances; 19 fined, one seized in UP drive

A three-day inspection in Ghazipur found 8 of 26 ambulances without insurance; Kushinagar is running a similar drive till October 7, reports say.

The transport department in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, has begun a three-day special inspection of ambulances. On the first day, officials checked about 26 ambulances, six government and 20 private, according to Amar Ujala.

ARTO (Enforcement) Dhanveer Yadav said the team examined fitness certificates, pollution compliance and insurance papers. The findings were:

  • 8 ambulances had no insurance
  • 8 failed the pollution certificate check
  • 3 drivers were fined for driving without a licence
  • 1 ambulance was seized for failing fitness and kept at Birno police station

In all, 19 challans were issued. All six government ambulances passed the records check; the violations were among private vehicles.

A similar campaign is under way in Kushinagar and runs until October 7. Officials there are checking documents, fitness, permits and whether ambulances carry the required medical facilities and safety equipment. Two substandard ambulances were identified on day one and their operators fined. ARTO Dr Dilip Kumar Gupta said violators will face action under the rules.

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

  • Insurance, a valid pollution certificate, fitness and a driving licence were the main points checked.
  • Private ambulances were the main target of the Ghazipur action.
