Bijnor police seize 105 kg of fireworks smuggled in an ambulance, FIR against four

Bijnor police stopped an ambulance carrying about 105 kg of unlicensed fireworks and registered an FIR against four men during a pre-Diwali checking drive.

Police in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, seized about 105 kg of fireworks being carried in an ambulance during a checking drive on Monday evening, 19 October 2026, according to Amar Ujala.

The ambulance was stopped at Mandawar crossing on Chakkar Road after police grew suspicious of boxes inside. Four men were in the vehicle. Police found rockets, anar, phuljhari, sutli bombs and other fireworks packed in cartons, with no licence, permit or bill.

The fireworks were reportedly bought in Jalalabad, Bijnor, and were being taken from Najibabad to Muzaffarnagar for retail sale. The report notes that Muzaffarnagar falls in the NCR, where fireworks sales and burning are restricted. An FIR was registered against the four accused, and the City CO said further action would depend on the investigation.

The Bijnor SP said smuggling would not be allowed, that intensive checking would continue until Diwali, and that using an ambulance to carry fireworks was a serious matter.
