Barabanki check finds ambulances running with expired fitness and pollution papers

A Barabanki check using the M-Parivahan app found several 108, 102 and private ambulances with expired papers; the RTO has promised a special drive.

Many ambulances operating in Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh, have crossed their prescribed service life or carry expired documents, according to an Amar Ujala report published on 19 October 2026.

On Monday, reporters checked ambulances inside and outside the district hospital using the M-Parivahan app. The vehicles included government 108 and 102 ambulances as well as private ones. According to the report, several were found unfit, with fitness and pollution certificates that had expired in June and July.

The report says six ambulances registered with the Lucknow RTO had expired registration certificates but were still being used to carry patients. One ambulance registered in Etawah had valid fitness and pollution certificates.

The report notes that running vehicles without valid fitness papers violates Section 56 of the Motor Vehicles Act and raises patient safety concerns. Barabanki RTO Amitabh Rai said a special campaign will be launched against such vehicles and action will be taken against drivers.

Why it matters for ambulance owners and drivers

  • Owners should keep fitness, pollution, insurance and registration papers valid, since checks can be done instantly on the M-Parivahan app.
  • A special enforcement drive is planned in the district.
